Lions Gate Virtual Views, Aug 21, 2023

Welcome to Lions Gate Virtual Views. We are glad that you can escape with us on these weekly virtual journeys!

Please email the Seniors' Hub with any feedback or suggestions for future program content. Enjoy!

I first want to start by saying that my thoughts are with all British Columbians who have been impacted by the horrific wildfires this summer. My thoughts are also with those around the world suffering from similar disasters (like flooding, heat waves, typhoons, tornados and hurricanes). It makes me even more committed to supporting my community as best I can.

Now let’s get more positive and start the day by getting our bodies moving with this great whole-body seated exercise video. Remember to drink lots of water and if you need to take a break you can always pause the video and restart when you are ready.

Let’s challenge our brains with these tricks and riddles. I had to really think to try to figure some of these out.

I recently took two Japanese international students to Ambleside Beach for a picnic dinner and then to watch the sunset at the pop-up village on Cypress Mountain. We had a great time, it was close by, AND it was all free (even the parking at both places).

Here is a lovely video of Ambleside Beach to beautiful classical music. Can you name the composer? Is it Chopin, Mozart? I recognize the music, but the name of the composer escapes me.

Now let’s head up Cypress Mountain to see the view of the Lower Mainland from the pop-up Village. You can see everything from Mount Baker (USA), Surrey, Metrotown, Downtown Vancouver, Stanley Park, UBC, Gulf Islands and Vancouver Island and everything in between. The view is second to none and apparently the pizza from the restaurant up there is good as well. Take a look at what you can see:

Let’s loosen things up a little with an episode of the Dick Van Dyke Show from 1961. Family life has definitely changed a little bit.

Let’s end our day with Bernadette Peters performing Hello Dolly live in 2018 from the Shubert Theatre in New York, USA.

I hope you had a great day today.
