Building community on the North Shore since 1970
Capilano Community Services Society (CCSS) is a registered non-profit serving communities across North and West Vancouver.
We began in 1970 as a grassroots response to the needs of youth and seniors in the Capilano Highlands area, and have grown to offer community programs that enable people of all ages to lead connected, healthy and fulfilled lives. Our services include:
Youth Outreach at Handsworth, Carson Graham, Norgate and Capilano Elementary schools, along with the Community Learning Program and the youth drop-in centre at William Griffin Recreation Centre.
Seniors’ Hub social activities where the average age is 88! Our bus “Doris Too” takes seniors to malls and shopping programs, and we host get-togethers throughout the community.
Red Cross Health Equipment Loan Program which annually provides more 6,300 pieces of medical equipment to North Shore residents, helping them recover from surgery, illness or injury.
Working in partnership with other community groups, organizations, and local Indigenous communities, CCSS is able to effectively identify service gaps, and collaborate with our partners to offer responsive programming and build capacity across the North Shore.
In spring 2020, CCSS will be moving into a new purpose-built community centre.
Set at the crossroads of Marine Drive and Capilano Road, Lions Gate Village Community Centre will serve the residents of Lower Capilano, Woodcroft, Pemberton Heights, Pemberton and Norgate. In addition to our current outreach programs, we will also be offering on-site social-educational-recreational programming for all ages. Our partners in this venture are the District of North Vancouver, North Vancouver Recreation and Culture Commission and the North Vancouver District Public Library.
This collaboration will provide residents with an inspiring mix of programs, services and events, creating a vibrant hub where people can connect with friends and neighbours.
