About Capilano Community Services Society
Capilano Community Services Society is a registered non-profit serving communities in the three North Shore municipalities: the District and City of North Vancouver, and the District of West Vancouver.
We began in 1970 as a grassroots response to the needs of the Lower and Upper Capilano Area for support to both youth and seniors in the community.
With a small staff and a budget of $400,000, we rely heavily on individual, community and business donations, as well as municipal, provincial gaming and federal funding. With the direction of our board members and more than 200 volunteers, we recently celebrated more than 40 years of service to the community.
Our programs include:
Youth Outreach at Handsworth, Carson Graham, Norgate and Capilano Elementary schools, along with the Community Learning Program and the youth drop-in centre at William Griffin Recreation Centre.
Seniors’ Hub Outreach where the average age is 88! Our bus “Doris Too” takes seniors to malls and shopping programs, and we host social activities throughout the community.
Red Cross Health Equipment Loan Program which provides more 6,300 pieces of medical equipment to North Shore residents annually, helping them recover from surgery, illness or injury.
And we provide administrative support services to five other non-profits who rent space in the community wing.
